About Human Subjects Research Training (HSRT):
HSRT offers foundational training on the United States federal regulations for the protection of human subjects in research, including the Belmont Report principles and the revised Common Rule, plus associated laws, policies, and guidance. HSRT was created by the Learn eCORE Founders (link to about us team bio page) who have many years of experience in human subjects research, including launching the popular former NIH course on this topic. the HSRT course was vetted by an independent with expertise in regulatory compliance and IRB certification and processes. Completion of HSRT satisfies the educational requirement for IRB certification and of federal research funding agencies like NIH.
HSRT is Organized into Five (5) Modules
- History of human subjects research protection
- The associated regulations and the Belmont Report principles
- Respect for persons
- Beneficence
- Justice
The course also teaches the purpose and function of institutional review boards and what is needed for IRB certification.
HSRT (LINK TO HSRT course page) reinforces learning through exercises and case studies and includes four quizzes that must be passed at 80% or more to demonstrate satisfactory mastery of course content. The examples, exercises, and case studies in HSRT are primarily drawn from biomedical human subjects research, although some socio behavioral material is included. Those who are involved primarily in social, behavioral, and educational research (SBER) and who need human subjects training, for example, for IRB certification, should consider taking the HSRT SBER course, which is geared towards this category of human subjects research (LINK TO HSRT SBER course page)
